The magical Snæfellsnes peninsula is about 90 km long with many mountain ranges and rugged peaks. Although the glacier Snæfellsjökull is the main tourist attraction, there are so many other features that are worthwhile tourist stops. In various areas along the coastline it is possible to spot seals, whales and dolphins. Birdlife is abundant in Snæfellsnes and around the islands in Breiðarförður where occasionally a puffin can be seen. It is an excellent place for birdwatchers.

Snæfellsjökull glacier is an active volcano and a beautiful magnet of the peninsula. Many believe it is one of the seven main energy centers of the world. The main attraction of the glacier is The Snæfellsjökull National Park

There are many museums and small exhibitions in villages and around the main roads that preserve the history, cultural heritage and nature of  West Iceland.

Should you want to travel on to the Westfjords from Snæfellsnes you can take the ferry Baldur from Stykkishólmur across beautiful Breiðafjörður bay.
